WEST ALTON, Mo. — The body of an infant found in a trash can was identified Thursday as that of a 6-week-old girl who was the second baby reported abducted from an Illinois couple in less than three years.
Robert Sims, 37, and his 30-year-old wife, Paula, were suspected but never charged in the previous death, but police refused to say whether they were suspects in the current investigation.
The body of Heather Sims, found Wednesday night, had been left in an oil drum used for garbage on the Missouri side of the Mississippi River, just across from Alton, Ill., where she allegedly was abducted Saturday, police said.
