Teen-Ager Convicted of Murder in Stabbing

A Granada Hills teen-ager was convicted Wednesday of second-degree murder in the stabbing death of another man during a drunken argument.

Shannon Ray Hall, 18, was convicted by a San Fernando Superior Court jury in the March 9, 1988, slaying of Dennis Jobe, 18, of Glendale.

During his trial, Hall admitted stabbing Jobe in the parking lot of a Target store on San Fernando Mission Road in Granada Hills. Hall said that he was drunk at the time and that Jobe, a longtime friend, had been arguing with him, trying to persuade Hall to stop drinking.

Hall testified that he didn’t know why he stabbed the victim and that he never intended to kill him.

Hall had been free on $100,000 bail but was remanded to custody Wednesday and is being held in lieu of $200,000 bail in County Jail, said Deputy Dist. Atty. Candace Foy-Smith. He is scheduled to return to court June 28 for the penalty phase of his trial. At that time, he will be sentenced to 15 years to life in prison, Foy-Smith said.
