Prep Baseball : Roundup : Donnelly Leads Foothill With His Bat and Arm to 2-1 Victory

Kent Donnelly pitched a five-hitter with six strikeouts to lead Foothill High School to a 2-1 victory over El Modena to clinch the Century League baseball title Friday at home.
Donnelly (8-3) also singled, and later scored on a double by Corey Parker in the third inning as Foothill (18-7 overall and 12-3 in league play) took a 1-0 lead.
Todd Delnoce doubled, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a sacrifice fly by Briden. Briden also threw out a runner at the plate in the sixth and made a diving catch in the outfield in the seventh inning to save another run.
El Modena (11-11, 9-6) finished third in league play.
In other Century League games:
Santa Ana 10, Santa Ana Valley 1--Julio Vargas had a double and a three-run home run to lead host Santa Ana (11-4, 16-9). It was his fourth of the season.
Bob Reimers (1-0), making his third appearance as a pitcher this season, allowed a run in four innings for the victory. Reimers, who normally starts at third base, also had single, a double and two RBIs. Santa Ana scored five runs in the sixth to take a 10-1 lead. Santa Ana Valley ends the season 1-21, 0-15.
Canyon 6, Villa Park 2--Dan Puskas’ second-inning grand slam provided the margin of victory for Canyon at Villa Park. Marty Little (5-3) pitched the complete game and had two hits.
Greg Kippen also had two hits for fifth-place Canyon, which finished 11-14 overall and 6-9 in league play. Villa Park took fourth place in league with a 7-8 record. Villa Park’s Danny Alleman and Grant Stephen each had two hits.
In the Orange League:
Magnolia 5, Brea-Olinda 2--Jason Nester pitched a complete game, allowing five hits and striking out nine. Magnolia’s Roberto Camarillo went two for three with an RBI and Jody Clark went two for four. Brea-Olinda (9-15, 5-10) lost any chance at a playoff berth with the loss. Magnolia ends 8-17, 5-10.
Western 9, Valencia 1--Western’s Troy Babbitt ended the season with his 100th career hit, a single, in the first inning. He added a two-run home run and a triple in four at-bats to bring his boost his average to .490.
Robert Legendre pitched a five-hitter with five strikeouts for the victory. Western (15-10, 10-5) finished second in league.
In the Olympic League:
Orange Lutheran 5, Whittier Christian 1-- Kent Dowding (5-3) pitched a six-hitter with nine strikeouts for visiting Orange Lutheran (13-10-1, 10-4), which clinched a playoff spot. Mark Bredehoft had two hits including a double for Orange Lutheran. Doug Senne and Dowding had RBI singles and Phil Matheson had a sacrifice fly for Orange Lutheran.
Anaheim 8, Savanna 4--Fernando Castro had a two-run single as Anaheim (16-9, 12-2) scored five runs in the first inning at Brookhurst Park.
