‘Mountain Man’ Receives Life Term for Killing Hiker

GETTYSBURG, Pa. — A “mountain man” who lived in a cave near the Appalachian Trail has been sentenced to life in prison for killing a female hiker last year at her campsite.
Stephen Roy Carr, 22, who was convicted in October of the first-degree murder of Rebecca Wight, 29, was sentenced Wednesday. Carr shot Wight and another hiker, Claudia Brenner, 32, along the Appalachian Trail in Michaux State Forest in Franklin Township, Adams County. Brenner survived.
