Southern Section Badminton Playoffs : Estancia’s Ly, the Top Seed, to Play Today

Competition in the Southern Section individual badminton championships ends today at Cal State Dominguez Hills with the semifinals beginning at 10 a.m., followed by the finals.
Ten county players or doubles teams will compete, headed by top-seeded Hoang Ly of Estancia High School. He will meet Ly Ho of Westminster in a boys’ singles semifinal. Chulki Song of Buena Park will face second-seeded Dan Mussman of Alta Loma in the other boys’ semifinal.
Ly also will team with Loan Le in a mixed doubles semifinal against Garden Grove’s Phi Ta and Soo Oh. In the other mixed doubles semifinal, Noy Sundara and Song of Buena Park will play against a team from Nogales.
Fourth-ranked Noy Sundara of Buena Park will face top-seeded Sanna Simonson in a girls’ singles semifinal. Grace Van Someran of Katella will play Hanh Tran of Ocean View in the other girls’ singles semifinal.
Pat Mallawong and Santikul Silavong of Garden Grove will meet a boys’ doubles team from Nogales.
