FULLERTON — Gene Murphy has signed a three-year contract extension to continue as Cal State Fullerton’s head football coach through the 1992 season, the school announced today.
Murphy, 49, is about to begin his 10th season with the Titans, who have finished first or second in the Big West Conference in five of the last six seasons. He signed a five-year contract after the 1984 season, when Fullerton was credited with an unbeaten season after Nevada-Las Vegas was forced to forfeit the only loss on the Titans’ 11-1 on-the-field record.
Murphy’s nine-season record at Fullerton is 48-56 (50-54, including two opponent forfeits), even though the Titans played 70 of those 104 games on the road. Murphy had previously been 15-7 in two seasons at North Dakota.
