USC Professor to Head Gerontological Group

Vern L. Bengtson , a USC sociologist, has been named president-elect of the Gerontological Society of America, the world’s largest organization of researchers in aging.
Bengtson will serve for one year, beginning Nov. 20.
The 9,000-member GSA is a multidisciplinary scientific group of researchers from such fields as clinical medicine, geriatrics, psychology and social policy and practice.
At USC, Bengtson is a professor of sociology in the College of Letters, Arts and Sciences, and is director of the Andrus Gerontology Center’s Gerontology Research Institute.
