Tambo Suffers Fatigue, Aide Says

LUSAKA, Zambia — African National Congress President Oliver Tambo is suffering from fatigue and has been flown to London for a medical checkup, a senior ANC official said Sunday.
Thabo Mbeki, the ANC’s head of foreign affairs, denied that Tambo, 71, had suffered a stroke and said doctors had ordered him to rest.
Mbeki said that the ANC leader, who has led the guerrilla struggle against South African white-minority rule for 20 years, went to London for a checkup and a vacation.
Sources close to the ANC in Lusaka had said Saturday that Tambo suffered a stroke Wednesday and was flown to London on Friday.
