An unidentified woman was killed Wednesday after she ran the U. S. Border Patrol checkpoint in San Clemente and lost control of her car after a brief chase, authorities said.
The woman, who carried no identification, died about 2:40 p.m. Wednesday, said Ken Bell, deputy San Diego County coroner.
Three passengers in the car, two teen-age boys and a man, suffered minor scrapes and bruises, said Lloyd Needham, a spokesman with the California Highway Patrol.
The three males were taken to San Clemente Hospital and were expected to be released into the custody of the Border Patrol late Wednesday, Needham said.
The accident occurred just sout of the Basilone Road exit on Interstate 5, said Michael D. Gregg, a Border Patrol spokesman.
