NEW YORK — Two teen-age boys rescued after drifting in a 16-foot dingy off Bermuda for 11 days without food or water arrived Thursday in New York.
Andre C. Whitter, 17, and DiJuan Simons, 14, of Bermuda, were rescued before dawn Tuesday when the deck officer aboard the Greek tanker Chios heard a cry for help.
Coast Guard officials said it was a “miracle” that the teens survived so long. The youths ate some seaweed they managed to lift from the water, a Coast Guard spokesman said.
Kenneth Wilson, a 29-year-old friend and fellow worker, apparently drowned after swimming away from the boat Monday.
