A fire in a multilevel La Jolla home Wednesday caused more than $100,000 in damage before firefighters brought it under control, a San Diego Fire Department spokesman said.
The fire started when an electrical outlet ignited fumes from lacquer being used by painters at 8514 Prestwick Drive, the spokesman said. More than 20 firefighters battled the flames for about 15 minutes.
The fire began on the second floor and spread into the attic. One painter was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.
