A transient attempting to jump on a moving train near Canyon Country late Wednesday had his left foot severed when he slipped and fell, sheriff’s officials said.
The accident occurred at midnight on tracks near a train tunnel at Capra Road and Soledad Canyon Road, Sgt. Greg Sisneros said. Southern Pacific officials contacted authorities immediately after the accident, he said.
Antelmo Reyes Herrera, 18, of Tijuana, Mexico, was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Community Hospital. He was later transferred to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center, where he was listed in stable condition, a hospital spokeswoman said Thursday.
Herrera told deputies that he had hopped a train earlier in the day in Tijuana, Sisneros said.
