WORLD IN BRIEF : BRAZIL : Kidnap Gang Frees Victim, Surrenders

An international gang of kidnapers who abducted the vice president of Brazil’s biggest supermarket chain released him unharmed and surrendered in Sao Paulo. The six kidnapers of Abilio dos Santos Diniz, 52, surrendered after police assured them they would not be killed. Police found the hide-out where Diniz was being held after capturing four other members of the gang earlier. The kidnapers had intended to demand a $60 million ransom, police said.
