Baxter Signs Deals Worth $2.5 Billion: Baxter Healthcare Corp. announced $2.5 billion in medical-supplies contracts with three hospital companies that serve health-care centers nationwide. The deals effectively extend for another five years a 1985 agreement with Hospital Corp. of America. Under separate contracts that become effective Jan. 1, Baxter will provide products and services for six years to HCA, HealthTrust Inc. and HCA Management Co., which together own or manage 452 hospitals nationwide.
