USD Puts Away Oregon State

The University of San Diego scored the game’s final seven points to defeat visiting Oregon State, 58-51, in nonconference women’s basketball Wednesday night.
Candida Echeverria started the 7-0 run with a 19-foot jumper to break a 51-51 tie with a minute remaining. Echeverria led USD (8-1) with 23 points, and Lynda Jones added 12.
USD led, 26-23, at halftime despite shooting 27%. The Toreras made up for their poor performance from the field by making 21 of 24 from the free throw line. Oregon State (4-7) made just seven of 15 from the line. Margo Evashevski led Oregon State with 16 points.
USD plays host to Arizona State Saturday at 5 p.m. as a preliminary to the men’s game.
