Albertson’s Inc.: The retail grocery chain reported a fiscal 1989 profit of $196.6 million, up 20.9% from fiscal 1988. Fourth-quarter profit totaled $60.3 million, up 16.2%. Quarterly sales rose 2.7% to $1.94 billion, while sales for the year were $7.42 billion, a 9.6% increase from the previous year. The Boise, Ida., company said the improvement for the year ending Feb. 1 was primarily because of efficiencies realized from the addition of new distribution centers and the opening of 36 new stores in 1989.
