New Whittaker Corp. Trial Ordered: Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Warren Deering ordered a new trial in the lawsuit that Whittaker Corp. filed against its former insurance broker, Alexander & Alexander, charging negligence and breach of contract. A jury previously awarded Whittaker $27.3 million in the case. Whittaker charged that the broker dropped part of the firm’s product liability insurance shortly before railroad cars manufactured by Whittaker began to crack. Deering found insufficient evidence to support the jury’s verdict.
