NATION IN BRIEF : LOUISIANA : Places in the Heart Now Shown in ‘3-D’

Miniature ultrasound probes are taking detailed, three-dimensional pictures of the heart arteries to help surgeons repair clogged and damaged vessels, researchers reported. The system, designed by computer software developers at ImageComm Systems of Santa Clara, Calif., with doctors at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Boston, was to be presented to the American Academy of Cardiology when it meets today in New Orleans. One researcher, Dr. Kenneth Rosenfield of St. Elizabeth’s, said the images can clearly show cracks and breaks in the artery wall.
