An 8-year-old boy playing with matches caused a fire in a second-story apartment in East San Diego, a Fire Department spokesman said.
The child and his 15-year-old brother were home alone when the fire started in a bedroom of the two-story apartment in the 4600 block of 46th Street, said firefighter Jon McDonald. The boys were not injured.
Damage is estimated at $35,000, McDonald said.
