Bettleheim’s Death: Society’s Disgrace

Patt Morrison’s illuminating article, “Last Days of Bruno Bettleheim” (April 3), was a courageous and unflinching look at what can happen to the unloved elderly.

That such a gentle and caring man as Bettleheim could end his life so brutally uncared for is a disgrace. Unfortunately, in our society this particular disgrace is a common one.
