TODAY’S ELECTION
A number of key issues at the state, county and local levels face voters in today’s statewide primary:
Among other things, voters will decide whether to raise the gas tax to fund highway projects, restructure the criminal-justice system and set ethical standards for state officials.
Locally, Orange County voters will decide whether to restrict all new jail construction to Santa Ana. In Seal Beach, voters will decide whether to give council members a pay raise; in Irvine whether to expand the Yale Avenue footbridges; in Westminster whether to ban the sale of fireworks.
Several hotly contested races also will be decided, including those in the 58th, 70th and 72nd Assembly districts and in Irvine’s city election.
Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.
For information about polling places, call the registrar of voters office at (714) 567-7600.
