SANTA ANA — An Orange County jail inmate who escaped from a local hospital Saturday was back in custody early today, authorities said.
JoAnne Gonzalez, 24, who was being held on warrants for prostitution, was arrested by Santa Ana police in Santa Ana at 12:35 a.m., said Orange County Sheriff’s Lt. Dick Olson.
Gonzalez had escaped at 10:05 p.m. Saturday from Western Medical Center in Santa Ana, where she had been taken for examination, sheriff’s officials said. She had been in custody since early Friday morning.
The woman had been an inmate at the jail when she was taken to the hospital for examination, officials said. The reason for her visit to the hospital is confidential, officials said.
The woman slipped out of her handcuffs while a deputy was not looking and got away, wearing an Orange County jail-issue blue jumpsuit.
