Palmdale to Consider Ban on Fireworks

The Antelope Valley city of Palmdale, the last bastion of legal fireworks in northern Los Angeles County, has decided to again consider a law to outlaw the sale and use of fireworks.
Palmdale Mayor William (Pete) Knight said he asked city staff to draft a fireworks ban law for the City Council to consider in the coming months. Knight predicted the law will be adopted, although a similar city move fizzled two years ago.
“We’ve never gotten the public input and support for it like we did this year,” the mayor said. Other factors boosting its chances were the fire danger created by a fourth year of drought that has left the area tinder-dry, and concern over a recent rash of arson brush fires in nearby areas.
