The entrance to the Motion Picture Academy’s new library will be called the Bob Hope Lobby, after its most generous contributor.
The comedian gave $1 million, the single largest donation, to the renovation of a building to house the academy’s growing archives, said Karl Malden, president of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences.
The gift brings to $15 million raised, or 37% of what is needed. Hope’s contribution was made in January, but only recently announced.
“He is very happy about building a new library for the academy,” Malden said Saturday. “He felt that since he is part of the industry, he wanted to contribute.”
