An on-duty security guard crossing railroad tracks in a golf cart was hit by a freight train and killed early today in the City of Industry.
The 24-year-old man, whose name was withheld until his relatives were notified, was killed on impact when the train plowed into his cart at Fullerton Road about 3:45 a.m., Sheriff’s Sgt. John Cashion said.
According to deputies, the train was unable to stop immediately and continued another few hundred feet, dragging the cart. Authorities said the guard, who was using the cart to patrol businesses in the area, was not at a regular crossing but was trying to get over tracks from a cul-de-sac near Jellick Avenue and Fullerton Road.
