A Canyon Country woman was killed and a Saugus woman was seriously injured in a Panorama City traffic accident Friday night that occurred while their car was pelted with rocks after they purchased drugs, police said.
The accident occurred shortly before 11:45 p.m Friday after the two women bought marijuana in the 14600 block of Blythe Street, Sgt. Ron Marbrey said. Cathy Jackson, 30, was taken to Panorama Community Hospital where she died of massive blunt force trauma at 3:15 a.m. Saturday. The driver, Tracie L. Christiensen, 20, was reported to be in serious condition at Northridge Hospital Medical Center.
After the pair bought marijuana, their car was pelted by chunks of cinder blocks, police said. As Christiensen tried to leave the area, she lost control of the car and it smashed into a tree a block away.
Police, who are treating the death as a homicide, said they do not know who threw rocks at the car. The incident occurred in a high-crime area that is plagued by drug dealing and gangs.
