SIMI VALLEY : List Narrowed to 12 for Schools Chief Job

A list of 46 candidates for superintendent of the Simi Valley Unified School District has been narrowed to 12, and the school board will meet Monday to consider them, officials said.
Leland Newcomer, who was hired by the district in July to conduct a search for a new superintendent, said he will deliver the list to the board during a closed meeting at the district’s headquarters.
Newcomer said he will recommend that the board shorten the list to between four and six candidates so that the panel can begin interviewing as early as Wednesday or Thursday. He said the board should be able to hire a new superintendent within the next three or four weeks. The position will pay $95,000 a year.
Associate Supt. A. Cathi Vogel has been serving as the district’s chief administrator since former Supt. John W. Duncan vacated his seat two weeks ago. Duncan resigned from his post, which he held for more than 16 years, to become head of the San Ramon Valley School District in Northern California.
