Kinchen Runs LSU Past Texas A

BATON ROUGE, La. — Todd Kinchen turned a short pass into a 79-yard touchdown, then set up a second fourth-quarter touchdown with a 60-yard punt return to lead Louisiana State to a 17-8 victory over No. 11 Texas A&M; on Saturday night.

Both teams are 3-1.

Texas A&M; scored on a 13-yard pass from Lance Pavlas to Doug Carter with 5:24 left, and Pavlas hit Shane Garrett for the two-point conversion.

Pedro Suarez had the only score of the first three quarters, a 26-yard field goal with four minutes left in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, on a third-and-12 situation, Kinchen took a short pass, dodged through the A&M; linebacking corps, hit the left sideline, spun Kevin Smith around with a fake at the LSU 35, cut back across field and outran Smith and two other defenders for the right flag.

Kinchen had 10 receptions for 133 yards.

After A&M;’s next series, Kinchen took the punt at the 26, broke through the coverage and raced to the Aggies’ 14. Harvey Williams scored from a yard out four plays later.

A&M;’s star running back Darren Lewis was ejected in the second quarter for throwing a forearm into the face of a tackler. He had averaged 130 yards a game in three previous contests.
