In 1982, when a friend’s daughter needed blood to help in her fight against cancer, Fullerton resident Jack Doughty rushed to donate his own.
Since then, Doughty, 64, has donated blood products that have helped save and prolong the lives of 34 people. He is one of 7,000 Orange County Red Cross volunteers to be honored Sunday at UC Irvine. Doughty has a valuable blood type especially well-suited for babies.
The ceremony honoring Doughty and other volunteers will be at UC Irvine’s Student Center at 3 p.m. Sunday.
