Mike Pawlawski threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Brian Treggs with 1:22 remaining and Robbie Keen kicked the extra point to give California a 31-31 tie with 21st-ranked Southern Cal on Saturday.
The Bears (5-3-1 overall, 3-2-1 Pacific 10) had a chance to win the game, but Robbie Keen’s 43-yard field goal fell short as time ran out. USC is 6-2-1 overall and 3-2-1 in the Pac-10.
David Wilson intercepted a pass by USC’s Todd Marinovich and returned it 28 yards to the Southern Cal 43 with 3:40 remaining.
A pass interference call against the Trojans’ Mike Salmon moved the ball to the 24, and, after Russell White picked up two yards on fourth-and-1, Pawlawski found Treggs open in the end zone.
