DUBLIN, Ireland — More than 100 fans were arrested when police staged baton charges against rioting English and Irish soccer fans in Dublin, police said today.
In two hours of running battles in the city center Wednesday night, police in riot gear charged to break up clashes between fans of the longtime rivals, who played to a 1-1 tie in their match.
No one was seriously injured in the clashes but police said 106 people had been arrested. Eleven of those were from England and 15 from British-ruled Northern Ireland.
Most of them will be charged with being drunk and disorderly.
