CAMARILLO : Supervisor to Lead Regional Officials
- Share via
County Supervisor John Flynn has been appointed interim president of the Southern California Assn. of Governments to replace Santa Monica City Councilwoman Christine Reed, who lost her re-election bid in November.
Flynn, who represents Ventura County on SCAG’s executive committee, formerly was first vice president. He will assume the presidency in March at SCAG’s annual meeting in Santa Monica.
SCAG, composed of elected officials representing six counties and 180 cities, has been under fire by Camarillo officials who want Ventura County to withdraw and form a new regional coalition with Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties.
Flynn said he disagrees with that approach. “In Ventura County, we look to the south, rather than the north. . . . There has never been strong support for SCAG here. That’s because local government does not want to give up its authority with land-use issues.”
As president of SCAG, Flynn said, he hopes to continue work on a regional proposal for Southern California that would strengthen SCAG.
