NASA’s poor maintenance practices have led to a fire from faulty wiring in a mission control room, falling concrete in a shuttle building and a steam line explosion, the General Accounting Office in Washington said. NASA has given little priority to preserving its facilities, most of which are at least 30 years old, the study said. A NASA official said the agency is in the process of correcting the problems. The GAO urged that standards be established to guide centers in setting up maintenance plans.
