American Gets TWA Route Approval: The Department of Transportation approved transferring the Chicago-to-London air route operated by Trans World Airlines Inc. to American Airlines, the nation’s biggest carrier. In announcing its decision, the DOT said the $110-million cash infusion TWA will get from the route sale could help bolster the financially struggling airline. The department said it will act separately on American Airlines’ application to acquire six other TWA U.S.-to-London routes.
