Northwest Airlines Selects Wilson as Co-Chairman

Gary L. Wilson, the former Walt Disney Co. chief financial officer who helped spearhead the 1989 takeover of Northwest Airlines, was elected the airline’s co-chairman on Thursday.
Wilson, 51, will share the top spot with his partner and protege from their years at Marriott Corp., Los Angeles businessman Alfred A. Checchi.
The move signifies that Wilson has become more active in Northwest’s affairs as the airline struggles to deal with losses brought on by the recession and high fuel costs.
This is the second shift near the top at St. Paul, Minn.-based Northwest in two months. Its former chief executive, Frederick B. Rentschler, left in November after five months on the job.
