A speeding motorist trying to pass another car was killed early Thursday when he lost control of his 1990 BMW and plowed into a light standard in Los Angeles, police said. The motorist was headed westbound on Olympic Boulevard near 3rd Avenue when the accident occurred about 12:50 a.m.
Officer Deborah Gauff said the car crossed into the eastbound lanes in an attempt to pass another motorist and apparently went out of control.
The car ran off the road and crashed into a lamppost.
The unidentified man was pronounced dead at the scene. Witnesses told police he was exceeding the area’s 35 m.p.h. speed limit.
No one else was injured.
