CALIFORNIA IN BRIEF : SAN FRANCISCO : Officer Suspended in Probation Probe

A growing investigation over falsified probation reports resulted this week in one probation officer surrendering on four misdemeanor counts. But an eight-week investigation by the San Francisco district attorney’s office has so far failed to uncover evidence that the practice is widespread. The Adult Probation Department suspended Barry P. Nelson, 39, for 30 days after finding he filled out a presentence report for Enrique Lopez Garcia without interviewing the man.
