More than 200 black high school and community college students from Ventura and Santa Barbara counties are expected to attend a Future Black Leaders Conference Tuesday.
The all-day event held in celebration of Black History Month is part of an effort to encourage more minority students to go to college, said an official from UC Santa Barbara, which is sponsoring the event.
The conference will include a panel discussion by UCSB students on campus life.
Also scheduled are workshops and meetings with UCSB black student leaders, said Joan Magruder, a university spokeswoman.
Michael Young, vice chancellor for student affairs, will welcome the students at the University Center Pavilion, where most of the day’s activities will be held.
