Iraq’s best tank, the Soviet-built T-72, is considered a match for the U.S.’s M-1A1 tank. Heavily armored and often manned by Saddam Hussein’s vaunted Republican Guard troops. Most of Iraq’s estimated 1,000 T-72s are in prepared defensive positions with overhead cover, making them hard to detect.
