MANILA : 5 Years of People Power
Tens of thousands of Filipinos are expected to gather in Manila on Monday to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the “people power revolution” that brought President Corazon Aquino to power.
This year’s rally will feature a special “prayer power” Catholic mass and procession to pray for peace in the Persian Gulf.
It comes after a year in which the Philippines suffered a series of military mutinies and severe economic problems. The country is now gearing up for the 1992 elections to replace Aquino, who does not plan to run for reelection.
