TENNIS ROUNDUP : Lendl Struggles Past Qualifier

Top-seeded Ivan Lendl was tested during three tough sets by South African teen-ager Wayne Ferreira Wednesday before advancing to the third round of the $750,000 U.S. Indoor tennis championships at Memphis.
Lendl, who received a first-round bye, had his hands full with the 131st-ranked qualifier before winning, 6-3, 3-6, 7-5.
Second-seeded Pete Sampras started slowly but beat Chris Garner, 7-6 (8-6), 6-3.
Two other seeded players did not fare as well. No. 3 Andres Gomez fell to Tim Mayotte, 6-4, 6-2, and No. 9 Petr Korda lost to Patrick McEnroe, 2-6, 6-1, 7-5.
Guy Forget of France moved into the second round of the $1-million Eurocard tournament at Stuttgart, Germany, by beating Juan Aguilera of Spain 6-2, 6-3.
In second-round matches, third-seeded Goran Ivanisevic, 19, of Yugoslavia beat Eric Jelen, 6-4, 6-4; and Magnus Gustafsson of Sweden upset eighth-seeded Andrei Chesnokov of the Soviet Union, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.
Lisa Bonder-Kreiss of Beverly Hills defeated third-seeded Amy Frazier, 6-3, 6-3, in the second round of a $150,000 Virginia Slims event at Oklahoma City.
