Moorpark : City Earmarks U.S. Funds for Club Site

Federal money will be used to help the Boys and Girls Club of Moorpark buy a new site and to install 148 sidewalk ramps for the handicapped throughout the city, a city official said.
The Moorpark City Council voted to give the club a $50,000 grant and a $100,000 loan toward the purchase of property at the Casey Road school site.
The club plans to move from a one-room site into a gymnasium with locker rooms and space for additional activities, club Executive Director Dominick Lee said.
The money is part of a community development block grant earmarked for projects that benefit low- and moderate-income residents.
Moorpark had $445,500 in block grants that had to be spent by April 30 to avoid jeopardizing future grants, said Don Reynolds, management analyst for the city.
The council also decided to spend $160,000 to install ramps for the handicapped and $20,000 to improve Charles Street, which runs through the downtown area.
The remaining funds will aid existing projects, such as the city’s literacy and nutrition programs, Reynolds said.
