Young’s Cut Hand Mended

Rio Mesa High shortstop Dmitri Young recently had 14 stitches removed from his right hand, apparently the result of a knife accident while he roughhoused with his father last month, but will not miss any of the Spartans’ nonleague contests.
Young, rated as Baseball America magazine’s top high school prospect in the nation, said he was stabbed Feb. 10 and was unable to participate in batting practice for 10 days.
“My dad and I were playing around with a knife and things got a little carried away,” he said. “But the cut isn’t anything serious.”
Young, a projected first-round selection in June’s amateur draft, made an oral commitment in mid-February to attend the University of Miami.
