OXNARD : New MWD Cutbacks Stall Rationing Plan

The Oxnard City Council declared a water emergency Tuesday but postponed a water conservation plan to reduce consumption by 20% after learning that more severe cutbacks would be needed to meet the requirements of its main water supplier.
On Monday, the Metropolitan Water District, which supplies two-thirds of Oxnard’s water, imposed a 30% cutback on residential users, rendering the city’s proposed water-rationing plan obsolete even before it was scheduled to be adopted.
City officials said they would return Tuesday with a new plan for the council’s consideration.
In a related development, the council scraped a $100,000 rebate program for low-flow toilets from the proposed water-rationing plan after Councilman Michael Plisky complained that the city could not afford it.
