Sketches Erased: Five pieces of artwork used in Walt Disney’s 1940 animated feature “Fantasia” have been stolen from the Museum of Cartoon Art in Rye Brook, N.Y. Among the works taken were two preliminary sketches from the “Sorcerer’s Apprentice,” a cel and background of Mickey Mouse from the same sequence and a caricature of animator Vladimir (Bill) Tytla as his most famous creation, Tchernobog, the black god in “Night on Bald Mountain.” The artwork was on loan from the collection of Mike and Jean Glad for an exhibition on the making of “Fantasia,” scheduled to open this Sunday.
