La Verne : Development Approved

The city has given the final go-ahead to the La Verne Heights development, a plan by Lewis Homes of California to build a 217.5-acre, 186-unit residential development.
The council on Monday voted 3 to 0 to approve the development’s nine final tract maps. Councilman Patrick Gatti, a realtor, abstained, saying his work would make it a conflict of interest to vote on the measure, and Mayor Pro Tem Thomas Harvey was absent.
Some residents had complained that the project is inappropriate during the drought, but Mayor Jon Blickenstaff said that stopping growth would hurt the economy. He also said that the city’s water allotment from the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California would be increased to allow for the development.
