Bell Gardens : Construction to Begin on Human Services Building
- Share via
Construction is expected to start soon on a $1.2-million facility in Bell Gardens that serves low-income residents and senior citizens in the Southeast area.
A groundbreaking ceremony was held Tuesday for the proposed 10,000-square-foot, two-story building at 6800 Florence Ave. Construction is expected to be completed within nine months.
The facility is run by the Human Services Assn., a private nonprofit agency that offers assistance to residents in at least 12 cities. The association’s services include child care for welfare parents and meals and transportation for seniors.
The new building will replace a 50-year-old former church building where the association is now located.
Construction money came from various sources, including foundation grants, personal donations and state and city grants.
