CARACAS, Venezuela — All 53 people aboard a DC-9 jetliner were killed when the plane struck a mountainside in heavy fog near Lake Maracaibo, government officials confirmed Wednesday.
President Carlos Andres Perez said the plane, owned by the state airline Aeropostal, disappeared Tuesday during a routine flight. It was found Wednesday by a farmer.
All of the victims, including five crew members, apparently were Venezuelans.
