The Master’s College, given another chance after an opening-round defeat in the NAIA District 3 tournament, shot down Christian Heritage, 95-74, Friday night at Master’s in a regional playoff game of a different sort.
With the win the Mustangs advanced to Thursday’s first round of the National Christian College Athletic Assn. tournament in Chattanooga, Tenn.
Although the NCCAA event is basically a Christian college version of the NIT, Master’s Tom Bruner (21 points) will take it.
“All season we were shooting for the NAIA tournament, but we got a second chance to prove we can play basketball,” Bruner said. “And we got a second chance to play for a national championship.”
Master’s (20-11) outscored Christian Heritage, 24-14, over the final nine minutes of the first half to take a 45-32 lead.
