HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL GIRLS’ STATE REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS : Taller Palos Verdes Beats Lompoc Again, 63-43
- Share via
It’s safe to say that Lompoc High has seen enough of the Palos Verdes girls’ basketball team for one season.
Meeting for the second time in a week, Palos Verdes again had too much balance, height and talent for Lompoc in winning the Southern Regional Division III title Saturday with a 63-43 victory at the Sports Arena.
Palos Verdes (31-2) will make its second appearance in a State final at 9:15 a.m. Saturday when it plays Northern California champion Healdsburg (30-4) at the Oakland Coliseum Arena. The Sea Kings lost in the 1988 Division II final.
Palos Verdes’ front line of 6-foot-5 junior Jeffra Gausepohl, 6-3 junior Monique Morehouse and 5-10 freshman Mimi McKinney dominated play inside. They combined for 41 points and 22 rebounds and neutralized Lompoc’s two big girls--6-5 senior Nicki Manzo and 6-1 freshman Kimberly Wuest.
